GROWING BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH AGRO-PROCESSING
The Chamber's Annual Conference is a rallying point for business, government, civic society and smallholder farmers to contribute to developing sustainable businesses, creating jobs and growing the Gauteng economy.

The 2019 Conference targets smallholder farmers and the enterprises that supply them with services, equipment, etc and those that procure from this sector.

The programme aims to help the farmer delegates understand:

  • what products the local and African markets want
  • how farmers can process their agricultural produce to deliver those products
  • what assistance provincial and national government provides
  • investor opportunities.

The speakers will include Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Agriculture and Environment, Motlatjo Makaepea, Chief Director Agro-Processing, GARD (the Province’s Agri-Parks Initiative; Chelsea Paull of Umoya Foods (methods of processing foods, e.g. drying); Inmed on Aquaponics, Herman Breedt on the Red Farms Agri-Market initiative, Fedgroup on Impact Farming; Bühler South Africa on their micro mill and Donald Mabusela, the dti Director: Strategic Partnerships and Customer Care. There will also be a panel of farmers that will share their problems and experience.

The Chamber has represented business interests for 129 years - there has never been a more critical time for the business sector to get involved in creating jobs and reducing food insecurity.

Networking: There will be opportunities for interaction between private sector, government and urban farmers to establish linkages and learn from on-the-ground experiences.
